whenever eli cleans the venue he straps a cassette deck to his hip with his belt and plays whatever he threw in his bag that morning. sometimes he lays all his tapes out on my desk and asks me to pick. a couple weeks ago he’d brought along This Year’s Model and as i looked through everything else, i pushed that one away and told him how elvis called ray charles and james brown the n word that year. One being blind and ignorant, and the other a jive-ass. and then Eli got to empty the trash he threw his tape out in.
